EDS at Union inaugurated a series of Facebook Live conversations with “Being Church in the Time of COVID-19. While some of the interviews related directly to worship, all are relevant to the full scope of “being church” in these times.
Since last spring, The Rev. Canon Kelly Brown Douglas, Dean of EDS Union Theological Seminary has hosted 18 guests—including The New Jim Crow author and New York Times columnist Michelle Alexander, Princeton University scholar and author Eddie Glaude, Jr., and Karenna Gore, Founder and Director of the Center for Earth Ethics.
Now, as November 3 approaches, Team EDS is shifting the focus of these Facebook Live conversations to “The Just Vote,” which explores voting rights and the upcoming, crucially important election.
This past Wednesday kicked off the “The Just Vote” conversations with Rashad Robinson, President of Color Of Change. Other scheduled guests include:
Ari Berman, reporter and author of Give Us the Ballot (who also will join EDS at Union as a special guest lecturer on October 14)
Cheryl Townsend Gilkes, Ph.D., John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Professor of Sociology and African-American Studies, Colby College
Robert P. Jones, CEO and Founder, Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) and author of White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity that was published last month
Bill Moyers, Emmy Award-winning journalist, who will discuss his work with President Johnson on the Voting Rights Act of 1965
